The Perfect Post-Run Routine (Including Wine 🍷)

Finishing a run is one of the best feelings there is — but what you do after your run matters just as much as the run itself.

A good post-run routine helps your body recover, prevents soreness, and turns your workout into a lifestyle you actually enjoy.

Here’s a simple, balanced routine you can follow.

1. Cool Down Properly

Don’t stop abruptly. Walk for 5–10 minutes to bring your heart rate down gradually. This helps prevent dizziness and supports recovery.

2. Hydrate First

Before anything else, drink water. Running depletes fluids, and hydration should always come first — even before food or wine.

3. Light Stretching

Focus on: Hamstrings; Calves; Quads; Hips

Keep it gentle — this isn’t the time for intense stretching.

4. Refuel Your Body

Within 30–60 minutes, eat something balanced: Protein (for muscle repair); Carbs (to restore energy). Honestly, if you not hungry just go with water that's it - instead of one glass drink two. If you are - go ahead with below:

Please no fruity yogurts, toasts or smoothies - just carbs or something light, I would prefer white less fat cheese with cucumber..or just simple greek yogurt.

5. Shower & Reset

A quick shower helps relax your muscles and signals that your workout is complete. It’s also a mental reset — shifting from effort to relaxation.

6. Enjoy Your Wine (The Right Way)

Yes — you can enjoy wine after a run and never feel guilty about that.

The key is balance: Keep it moderate (one glass)- Drink it slowly - Pair it with food (which you didn't have right after run).

A light option like rosé or a crisp white wine works well after a run because it feels refreshing rather than heavy.

Why This Routine Works is because this approach lets you recover properly, avoid burnout and actually look forward to your runs because when something feels rewarding, you’re more likely to stay consistent.

Final Thought

Running shouldn’t feel like punishment. It should feel like something that adds to your life — not takes away from it.

So run strong… and enjoy the moment after.
